I am not sure, but I think I came across Molly Drake's music by hearing some of her songs in a documentary called "A Skin Too Few" - a film about her more well known son, singer/songwriter Nick Drake. I am a pretty big fan of "stripped back" music -a lot of music I really enjoy is just someone singing and playing an instrument. Molly Drake's music is no exception as the only recordings of her that exist are that of her just singing and playing a piano in the family living room. Her recordings can be found on Spotify and Youtube if you care for a listen. I find her music to be very dark, tragic and sad, and really beautiful. I also really like her use of major and minor chords, and the timing in her music... I feel there is a lot to take away from in her music if I ever chose to do so. The lyrics she writes are a gift all their own. I think the songs pair well with a quiet, dreary day drive in the country. I don't know... I just often times find myself going back to her music for a quiet listen, it is good company for the times I want to feel removed from everything.
