This little tune was written and composed by Henry Clay Work in 1862. It is a very popular old time fiddle and Banjo tune -usually played in the Clawhammer style of Banjo picking. The tune saw some popularity in the early part of the Twentieth Century and was used in older cartoons and films. The lyrics are from the point of view of recently freed slaves imagining the demise of their owner after being captured by the Union Army during the time of the American Civil War. They imagine their owner dressing up as a slave to evade capture. The first version I ever took quite a liking to was Frank Crumit's version recorded in the early 1920's. I really enjoy the orchestral breaks in between the lyrics. There used to be a remastered version of the song on the internet, but now all I can find is a gentleman playing the song on an old 78 record. All history aside, I just really enjoy the melody :)
Side note: I tried my best to play the melody of the song decent. I am not very proficient at the clawhammer style of banjo picking, but you'll get the idea. Also, pardon my dogs sneezing in the background :)

It will :) I just have to find time to record it. I will hopefully get around to it this week. I haven't shared the artwork or anything yet on social media and I don't think anyone views the website anyways. I consider this site more of a visual record of everything I've done -online portfolio basically :)
Just wondering if the song "Year of Jubilo" will be added later for a listen?
