I have found myself to be a fan of "old stuff". The earliest memories I can recall of being fascinated by old things come from trips out to the old Schrad Farm in Carroll County, Iowa. The homestead was located Northwest of my home town along the old Lincoln Highway and has since been bulldozed under. I was pretty darn young when I had the opportunity of going out there so I find it quite miraculous how much I remember. The house was in shambles, but packed with treasures. I recall looking at WWII rifles with my dad and grandpa. There were tins of coins, old milk bottles, and probably every Iowa license plate since the 1920's. I remember one time someone was burning old work wear and it was quickly discovered that paper money was still in some of the pockets!
I am grateful my grandpa was able to acquire a few things from that house when the estate was separated. My grandpa gifted me with a .22 caliber rifle, a .410 shotgun, a few coins and a railroad pocket watch... Needless to say, I don't think I could ever sell any of that stuff.
Old things are rare, making them quite expensive at times. Old advertising is a hot item right now and I am sure the market is up... I wanted a few old posters of my own -since I couldn't really afford to purchase them I just thought I would take stab at reproducing a few. The value and the story may not be there, but it still does my heart well to have the reproductions :)
